How to Care For and Repair Your Swag Camping Bedroll
In Bed Related Info | On January 4th, 2008 | By adjbedguyFor those of you who came in late a swag is a traditional Australian bedroll still as useful today as when it was first created.
Basically a foam mattress inside a waterproof canvas cover which encloses both you and your bedding – like a tent and sleeping bag in one, but made from canvas so it breathes and you avoid condensation buildup.
The swag is rolled and strapped when packed, and is larger and bulkier than a sleeping bag alone. Ideally made from durable canvas, a cared for swag will handle harsh conditions and last for years.
Swags are generally used by campers that don’t have to hike their equipment to their camp sites.
Now down to care and repair details.
You should not need to wet your canvas before use as most modern swag canvases have already been ?pre wet? but if you want to, for extra settling of your swag, then first take out the mattress and then put your swag under a sprinkler for about 20 minutes. Dry your swag in the shade rather than direct sunlight.
Your swag canvas should be treated with anti-fungal when made but it still pays to take care to dry it properly any time it becomes wet so as to avoid mould (mold).
Also when you roll up your swag it is a good idea to brush off any dirt and leaves as you roll it as wet leaf smell is a bit off.
When you return from any trip you should take out your mattress, and air and dry your swag thoroughly before storing it.
You should not need to put on any extra waterproofing on your canvas if it is good quality canvas as this will affect your swag?s ability to breathe and lead to condensation.
Never leave your swag unattended near an open fire.
Never leave your swag unattended in the back of a ute.
We hear many stories of swags lost both these ways, seriously.
If you are using your swag in particularly wet weather, it is a lot more pleasant, if you are going to be camped in one area for a while, to tie a tarp over head. This gives you a bit of breathing space when you get out of your swag and makes for a better camp.
Cleaning your swag should be with water only, DO NOT use soap or chemicals and avoid harsh rubbing as the waterproofing CAN be rubbed off.
Swag Repairs can be made to all parts of your swag in the event that they get torn or damaged.
There is a clear sticky product called ?Greenhouse Repair Tape?, costs about $9 for a 25mtr roll (50mm wide or 100 mm wide) which we recommend be set on the inside and outside of the tear.
Major repairs can be fixed at most upholstery workshops.

Tossing And Turning In An Adjustable Bed? Nonsense!
In Bed Related Info | On January 2nd, 2008 | By adjbedguyI am going to tell you why you absolutely, definitely, beyond a shadow of a doubt, must get an adjustable bed! If you find yourself more pooped, or just as pooped, in the morning than when you went to sleep, you need an adjustable bed. Your sleep system definitely has a correlation to your capability for a good nights sleep. Your sleep system is comprised of several integral elements. Unless you live in a third world country, your sleep system includes a bed frame, a mattress, pillows, sheets and blankets. Anything else you have in your bedroom can be classified as superfluous and does not profit your facility for a good night sleep.
I have tried ad infinitum, in many an article, to stress the importance of breaking a perilous, draining cycle of petulance brought on by tossing and turning in a regular bed. It seems that no matter how many times you fluff your pillow or shift around your sheets, that position of comfort you seek is unattainable. To add compounded misery, if you are married, your darling better half also has the same problem that you do. After all, you are both sleeping in the same uncomfortable bed.
Just when you are finally worn down to the point that you actually are about to go to sleep, your spouse will shift and do the old toss and turn routine. This usually snaps you back to the starting point of your quest to grab any semblance of a half decent rest. Snap, Crackle and Pop used to be a slogan for a commercial promoting breakfast cereal, but in your case it probably is more relevant to your dialogue with your spouse in the morning. Is there any wonder that you are both so cranky in the morning? Now seriously, how much are you willing to pay to actually lighten your burden. No truer phrase was ever spoken than Life is too short and with a lack of sleep it seems to get shorter all the time.
Adjustable beds can give you, on a comfort platform, your life back. In combination with a well-suited adjustable bed mattress, you may actually get the ball rolling towards a feasible new sleep system. A sleep system that in combination with the other elements will actually give you and your spouse a fighting chance against the tossing and turning demon that has tormented you for so long.
An adjustable bed essentially is a sleep system that is tailored to conform to your body. If you feel more relaxed with your head, or feet, or torso, or whatever elevated?. no problem! You do not have to corform to your sleep system, it conforms to you. What a novel idea! We have come a long way from shifting rocks and stones around to make our bed more comfortable. Unfortunately, too many of us do not place enough emphasis on the importance of a fortifying night of rest.
As I have reiterated on many an occasion, we spend a good 30% of our lives in bed. We struggle to make our lives as comfortable as possible in most areas that we consider vital to our happiness. It is most unfortunate that too many of us are not capable of co-relating our incessant tossing and turning with our quality of life. The next time you feel cranky, fatigued, irritable and sleepy in the morning, after a night of tossing and turning, remember this article. All you have to lose is a little money. All you have to gain is immeasurable.

How to Handle and Repair a Leaking Waterbed?
In Bed Related Info | On January 1st, 2008 | By adjbedguyWaterbeds are fun as well as they are a healthy choice for some people to finally get some healthy sleep. But waterbeds come with a small risk compared to regular mattresses. Whenever dealing with water in closed environments, the risk of leaking water is present. In regards to waterbeds the risk is tri-fold. First a leaking waterbed might just lose stability and become too soft so that the person using it slowly sinks down a little more. The second problem with a leaking waterbed is that the person using it might suddenly get wet (more or less fast depending on the size of the hole). The 3rd problem might be that water leaks out into the bedroom environment and causes a water damage.
A big problem is to securely identify the leak and to asses the damage. Is the leak fixable by yourself or do you need a professional to come out and fix your waterbed? If the leak is small enough so that you can fix it, where do you get a repair kit for your waterbed at all. If you are able to find the leak in your waterbed you should be able to see what the problem is and if you can fix it by applying a patch. Assuming that you opt for the self-repair you should then check what kind of repair kit you need. Not all waterbed repair kits are created equal as you might guess. Check the website of the manufacturer of your waterbed or call the retailer you purchased the waterbed from this will assure you are getting the correct waterbed repair kit.
Once you have a matching repair kit it is time to go to work. Carefully clean the area around the leak in your waterbed. Make sure you can clearly see the hole. Otherwise mark it with a text marker or other soft pen. The reason for marking the hole is that you can really apply the patch at the best location. Now cut the patch to the appropriate size, apply the adhesive that comes with your waterbed repair kit, and place it over the affected area. Push gently, but firm to apply the patch. Do not put any major pressure or weight (don’t lay down to sleep) onto the bed within the first one or two hours after applying the patch. That should be it. Give it some time and then enjoy your waterbed again.
